Orenda is a word with Iroquois roots referencing "the power of human will to change the world" or "a voiced summoning of personal strength to change fate." We like to think of it as the power of the human hand connected with the heart.
We pride ourselves in using fine materials that wear well with your life. We do not carry any items that are plated or filled as we want our adornments to be as pure and durable as possible. See each item page for a complete list of materials used in each piece.
If you care for your jewelry, it can last lifetimes. Jewelry, like all material, is susceptible to damage and requires preventative measures and maintenance. It is important to be aware of your jewelry while wearing it and to choose pieces that are appropriate for your lifestyle.
We recommend removing all jewelry, especially rings, in situations when abnormal contact is expected. Please do not swim in chlorinated or saltwater with any metal jewelry as it will incur damage that may not be able to be reversed.
When not in use, store your jewelry in a soft airtight container to prevent tarnish and damage.
You may clean your jewelry with clear soap and water, but never use other types of cleaners (they may destroy natural stones and remove any patina on the piece). Sometimes a soft toothbrush is helpful for gently cleaning around prongs and the stone itself. Sunshine® Polishing Cloths are great for removing unwanted oxidization and are safe to use on all of our pieces.
Silver pieces that have been intentionally oxidized (darkened) will wear to a lighter finish eventually due to the natural oils on your skin. To have it re-oxidized free of charge, contact us here.
About 95% of the metals used in our pieces are recycled from post consumer materials. Then, when we have scrap material at the end of a production cycle, we sell that scrap back to our dealers to be refined and, ultimately, used again. This creates a closed loop system within the United States which means less mining, less international movement, less environmental impact, and a more sustainable product.
Most of our jewelry is made in house by owners Susan Pridham and Alexa Suess in Greenport, NY. We also stock a house line from a lovely women owned company in California as well as a few other select studios that align with our principles from across the country. No sweatshops, no slave labor.
This is a tough subject. The reality is, to date there is no ethical certification or standard for colored gemstones. There is a limited certification for diamonds - known at the Kimberly Accord - but that certification only applies to rough material (uncut diamond) and not to individual finished stones. Therefore, it's nearly impossible to tell whether a stone has been ethically processed or not. Add in the complications of a long "chain of custody" or the dozens of people who may resell the stone before we get it, and you quickly realize that everything "ethical" on paper is sworn on a pinky promise and nothing more.
We are trying hard to do our part, such as completely avoiding stones like emerald, ruby, tanzanite, jade, and lapis lazuli that regularly fund war and organized crime. As of now, the only way to ensure a stone is 100% ethical is to buy a stone mined within the USA, or buy a lab grown or synthetic stone. To inquire about ethically sourced options, talk with us here.
Items denoted as "made to order" can take up to 7-10 days to process because we make those pieces just for you! Items marked as "ready to ship" will leave our shop within two business days of the purchase date.
Most shipments arrive within 2-4 business days. Please note every item has a different lead time depending on if it's "ready to ship" or "made to order." See above for more info.
We use USPS First Class or Priority depending on the weight of the item. Every item is trackable and orders over $100 are fully insured.
Returns + Exchanges
We unfortunately do not offer returns unless the item is deemed faulty. We will, however, issue you a store credit within 30 days of purchase. You, the customer, will be responsible for the return shipping. Please note that customized items and sale items are not eligible for exchange.
Orders can be returned to this address: 29 Front St. Greenport, NY 11944
Absolutely! We guarantee our workmanship under normal wear. Please contact us here to arrange a repair.
We do not repair other artisan's work.
Note that Orenda is not responsible for lost, broken, chipped, cracked, or damaged gemstones within the jewelry you have purchased from us once it has left our hands. While this rarely happens, some gemstones like turquoise, opal, selenite, or calcite are more fragile than others and must be treated with care. Stones are a natural material and thus we cannot guarantee them under our policy.
Ordering the correct ring size upon placing your order is very important. Due to the materials and handmade process, many of our rings cannot be resized after a purchase is made.
If you do not know your ring size, you may visit a professional jeweler to help you obtain your correct ring size. We do not recommend online sizing guides in lieu of getting sized properly — these other "quick" methods have proven to be very unreliable.
You are also welcome to take your ring to a local jeweler to see if they may be able to safely resize the piece for you. Some larger jewelry companies that specialize in repairs may have access to a spot welder that may allow them to easily resize pieces without removing the stone(s). We do not have access to or offer spot welding at this time.
It depends on the creator and the product. All options are outlined on the product page, so look out for customization options there. Please note that customized items are not eligible for exchange.
Prepaid registrations are required for all workshops, classes, and lectures unless otherwise noted in the event description.
You may forfeit your spot up to five days (120 hours) before the class begins and receive a full refund. If you choose to cancel within five days (120 hours) of the event, you will NOT recieve a refund but you are welcome to transfer your registration to a friend or family member (please notify us of these changes if possible.)
To show respect for our instructors and other students waiting for seats, we do NOT issue refunds or transfers for no-shows.
We take your privacy very seriously at Orenda. We do not sell nor share any personal data collected with any outside agency or organization other than as necessary to complete your business transactions (such as credit card processing or shipping address).
