Common Ground Adornments

Delve into the art of smithing while having fun and learning a new skill!
In this beginner workshop, we'll learn how to make a pair of brass or copper statement earrings that you can customize however you wish. You'll be shown how to plan your designs so they balance nicely, "pierce" (cut) and file sheet metal to smooth perfection, learn the nuances of textured forging, and learn the many ways to treat, polish, mattify, oxidize and otherwise finish the earrings to your liking. Note that there are no torches used in this class so it's great for those who are a little hesitant to use fire. All supplies are included and no previous metalsmithing skills are necessary. This class is a prerequisite to Intermediate Stonesetting - Bezel Setting.
We are currently running at half capacity for all workshops and lectures to increase the opportunity for social distancingYou will be required to wear a mask throughout the duration of this class. Please note that you may end up in close quarters with another person should you have to pass one another in our narrow space. If you are uncomfortable with any of the above, PLEASE refrain from signing up. There will be more opportunities to learn! We promise!
Since we will be working with hand tools and treatment chemicals, please wear clothes you wouldn't mind getting dirty.
This will be an approx 2.5 hour workshop. Workshop location: Orenda, 29 Front St Greenport, NY 11944
